The year may be over but winter is just now beginning. With the cold weather coming, it can be easy to get bored inside. That’s why we’ve prepared this list of five great activities for a girls night in, so you can make the most of your time with friends while staying both safe and warm!

#1 Wine & Movie Marathon

This one is a timeless classic for a reason. There is nothing better to do than grabbing a couple bottles of wine, some cozy blankets, and just enjoying some great movies with your friends.

It can be fun to make it a monthly occasion and progress through a series or a movie genre. If you are having trouble on some specific ideas, use this list of 40 essential feminist films. You’re bound to find one you love!

#2 Get Cookin’

Cooking can be one of the most genuinely cathartic and bonding activities one can do. Pick out a tasty meal and enjoy the process. We even recommend finding some challenging or messy to make - that’s where the real fun happens. Check out this list of great recipes for your girls night in.

#3 Play Board or Card Games

They get a bad wrap, but in our fast-paced, digital world, board or card games can be a great way to slow down and spend some quality time with friends or family. Crack open a beer or pour yourself a glass of wine and just lose yourself in the [hopefully friendly] competition.

There’s a long list of both new and old games to choose from. Do your research, think about your specific group, and find one that fits best for you. Cards Against Humanity is fun with friends while Monopoly is great with family.

#4 Do Something Artsy

Art can be intimidating for some, but there are mediums for everybody from painting, drawing, coloring, crafting, or any other form of artistic engagement. The fun is in the trying, struggling, and learning together with your very best friends. Especially if many of you aren’t very good and can just laugh with each other on your “masterpiece.”

There are millions of DIY YouTube videos out there for anyone looking to get into art: so fire one up, grab the essentials, and have yourselves an artsy night. The key here is to remember this isn’t a competition and there is no wrong way to express yourself!

#5 Record a Podcast

I know what you’re thinking: A podcast? Me? Really?

Yes, really!

You don’t ever have to share it or post it online, but recording a podcast together with your friends can be a genuinely awesome activity. First, just decide what you want to talk about. There is no wrong answer! If you don’t have an answer, that’s okay too. Just figure it out as you go.

If you and your friends all have a particular subject you’re passionate about, that will obviously work best. But again, there is no wrong way to do it. The key is to relax and let the conversation flow normally. Talk about something funny or talk about something serious.

If your subject matter is funny, the laughs are bound to come. More serious topics on the other hand can be great ways to learn more about different subjects and your friends themselves.

The best thing about this is that you now have the conversation to go back on whenever you want! Plus, if it ends up being really good… you might have found a new calling and money maker for your group.
